Liberty defeated Mystics in the WNBA Playoffs, and Sabrina Ionescu’s accuracy impressed the crowd.
The New York Liberty’s Sabrina Ionescu put on a stunning performance in the WNBA playoffs, impressing fans with her sharpshooting skills as the Liberty defeated the Washington Mystics.
It seems like Sabrina Ionescu just can’t stop setting records, especially from behind the arc. After making history in the regular season with 128 three-pointers, she continued her impressive performance in the playoffs by setting a franchise record with seven long shots on Friday night. Thanks to her incredible skills, the New York Liberty won 90–75 against the Washington Mystics.
Fans were left in awe as Sabrina Ionescu’s sharpshooting helped lead the Liberty to a 1–0 lead in the best-of-three first-round series against the Mystics in the WNBA playoffs. Ionescu dominated the game, scoring 29 points and hitting 7-of-13 from beyond the arc. In the fourth quarter, as the Mystics tried to make a comeback, Ionescu sealed the deal with back-to-back three-pointers that increased the Liberty’s lead.
She hit a game-high seventh three-pointer in the waning seconds to ensure the Liberty’s victory.
Ionescu’s dominance led some supporters to speculate that New York might be headed for the team’s first WNBA Finals participation since 2002.
Betnijah Laney scored 19 points, and Jonquel Jones had a double-double with 12 rebounds and 20 points. With 21 points, Myisha Hines-Allen led the Mystics With 21 points, in the defeat for Washington.
When Game 2 of the series begins Tuesday night, Hines-Allen, Brittney Sykes, and the rest of the Mystics will need to devise a strategy to limit Ionescu if they hope to have a chance to even the series.
